Experience contemporary art at Marres
With exhibitions that extend throughout the house, Marres sets itself apart from other art centers. These total installations take over rooms, corridors and stairwells, connecting walls, floors and ceilings. In this way, the exhibitions offer a landscape of shifting perspectives, unfamiliar walking routes to stimulate your sensory experience.
In the past, Marres has been transformed into a baroque city palace, a dense jungle, a rooftop landscape, a museum of living movement, a concert hall and an inhabited mansion.
Two major recurring exhibitions within the program are Currents and the Limburg Biennial. The group exhibition Currents offers recently graduated artists from academies in Belgium, Germany and the south of the Netherlands a platform for professionalization. In addition, every two years Marres brings together all the makers of Limburg during the Limburg Biennial: a festive celebration of the arts in which you can discover art by both professional artists and amateurs.
