Queer Sewing Club

On this Purple Friday, a day of solidarity, visibility, and being free to be yourself, join a workshop by the Queer Sewing Group: a sewing circle for and by queer people. The Queer Sewing Group grew out of a desire for community. Sewing and crafting together can be a powerful way to foster a sense of connection and belonging.
Choose between two options:
- Embroider and create a patchwork mini artwork on a handkerchief, inspired by the work of Celina Eceiza.
- Bring your own project and join us for some time together.
No sewing skills are required; you can learn as you go. All materials are provided. The workshop is a safe space and open to everyone, whether queer or not.

Halloween Costume Alterations & Making Workshop with Becky Doonan

With just one week to go until Halloween… Don’t have a costume yet, or want to change, add to, or put the finishing touches on your outfit? Bring your costume to Marres and get creative!
Becky Doonan, a freelance textile conservator and dressmaker with a strong background in textile crafts, will be there to help. Her work ranges from creating bespoke garments and conserving antique textiles to leading workshops and teaching sewing classes. She has a deep fascination with traditional textile techniques, which she explores through embroidery, weaving, and other forms of handcraft.

Lecture and workshop on lithophanes: From Porcelain to 3D-print by Martha Kicsiny

Discover the fascinating history of lithophanes: thin, translucent relief images whose details become visible when lit from behind. From the first porcelain lithophanes of the 19th century, which introduced a new way of using light to reveal and circulate images, to the revival of lithophanes through digital techniques and 3D printing: these objects offer a unique perspective on how images, light, and technology come together and can guide our attention.
The evening begins with a short lecture on the history and contemporary relevance of lithophanes. Afterwards, you will get hands-on in a practical workshop using beeswax, a material that is often overlooked. You will experiment with thickness, translucency, and backlighting to create your own illuminated relief images. Along the way, we will reflect together on materiality, energy, and the difference between a physical experience and one mediated through a screen.

Workshop Turn the Tide by Marjo de Vries (Vormstof)

n this workshop, we take a closer look at the enormous amount of textile waste generated around the world. From Limburg sheep’s wool, which is often treated as waste, to clothing and plastics exported to distant countries, where the consequences of our overconsumption become visible. This gives rise to a new phenomenon: waste colonialism.
Together, we will develop a powerful message and translate it into words. We will then weave the letters using leftover materials and textile waste, drawing on an old tapestry technique. For this, we use looms that are themselves made from reclaimed materials.
Marjo de Vries’ work centres on the connection with nature and the landscape of South Limburg. She draws inspiration from the local heritage and the unique environment in which she lives and works. She is passionate about sharing this connection with others through educational projects, exhibitions, and collaborations.

Workshop Heirlooming: from the top of my head by Teresa Carvalheira

Join this playful workshop and use discarded lace doilies and crocheted mats to create new hats and headpieces. Inspired by traditional Dutch headwear, such as the Zeeland kap and the Brabant poffer, we explore the stories, meanings, and techniques embedded in textiles.
By giving old materials a new life, forgotten craft techniques take on a new form. Participants experiment with shaping, draping, and moulding textiles, creating a unique headpiece individually or together. The workshop invites you to explore heritage, memory, and the ways in which knowledge and materials are passed down from one generation to the next in a playful way.
Teresa Carvalheira (Portugal, 1991) is a multidisciplinary designer and upcycler. Her work explores the relationship between people, nature, and craft, with a particular focus on local and often forgotten making practices. She is interested in how knowledge and stories are passed down from generation to generation, and how traditional techniques can acquire new meaning from a contemporary perspective. Driven by a strong interest in sustainability, textiles, and handcraft, she combines research, experimentation, and making.

Drink & draw by Dana Springer

During this special edition of Drink & Draw Maastricht, join us for a relaxed evening centred around drawing, connection, and experimentation. Two clothed models will pose throughout the evening, and you decide what and how you want to draw. There is no instruction, no right or wrong, and you don’t need to be an experienced artist.
Drawing is usually an individual activity, but this evening is all about creating together. By looking closely and drawing, you take more time to observe what you see and experience the space in a different way. Whether you are an artist, student, hobbyist, experienced drawer, or simply curious to try something new: everyone is welcome. Pick up a pencil, take a seat, and let yourself be inspired by the models and the people around you. You might even meet someone you would otherwise never have had a conversation with.
Dana Springer is the founder of Drink & Draw Maastricht. Drink & Draw evenings have been taking place in other student cities for decades. In September 2025, Dana organised the first Maastricht drawing evening with models.

Concert Àngels Asensi Soto by Doikayt

Laat je meenemen door het concert van Doikayt met traditionele Asjkenazische en Sefardische muziek als vertrekpunt.
Het concert onderzoekt de politieke en historische betekenissen van deze muziek en werpt een ander licht op Joodse geschiedenis en identiteit, ook in relatie tot het zionisme. Na een korte pauze gaan de muzikanten ongeveer een half uur met je in gesprek over de muziek, de thema’s en de perspectieven die het repertoire oproept. Zines met achtergrondinformatie, songteksten en context geven je extra handvatten om te luisteren en mee te denken.
Doikayt is een Joods muziekensemble van vier muzikanten, met vier stemmen, cello, accordeon, gitaar en percussie.
Doikayt betekent ‘hier-zijn’ in het Jiddisch. De term werd geïntroduceerd door de Joodse arbeidersbeweging Bund en verwijst naar het idee dat Joden zich in de diaspora inzetten voor rechtvaardigheid.
Omdat zowel Asjkenazische als Sefardische achtergronden samenkomen in het kwartet, heeft het ensemble een persoonlijke band met deze tradities. De muziek biedt ruimte om persoonlijke geschiedenis en identiteit te onderzoeken en een vorm van Joods-zijn te verkennen die losstaat van het zionisme.
