Celina Eceiza will transform the Marres house into an immersive, tactile environment that unfolds like a pleasure garden filled with textile delights. Created in collaboration with a broad network of craftspeople, the exhibition brings together murals, drawings, garments, sculptures, and textile works into one large-scale installation.
The walls and ceilings are covered with large, hand-worked textiles that have been painted, dyed, and embroidered, while the floors are composed of discarded clothing. A true multitalent, Eceiza transforms the exhibition space into a poetic, colorful, and soft environment. She draws, writes, and colors vast pieces of fabric, painting and embroidering scenes onto them—often referencing artworks and artists she admires, as well as titles and quotes she finds meaningful, alongside large bodies, kissing couples, fantasy animals, and oversized flowers. These large textile pieces are sewn together to cover the walls and parts of the ceilings of Marres, while the floors are made from stitched-together stray and discarded garments. Soft surfaces invite visitors to slow down and sit, lean, or rest. The exhibition is not just something to look at; it is a place to spend time—a refuge from our daily routines. The result is a house filled with spectacular, warm, and colorful environments where visitors can find peace and inspiration in an alternative universe, and explore and experience it through their senses.
Alongside the exhibition, there will be a series of workshops and a public program. Developed in part with the social production center Stichting Werkhuis in Maastricht, the exhibition offers a shared space for creation and gathering.
