Ready to dive headfirst into three days of art, culture, and creativity? This unique weekend brings you together with other young creatives and art professionals to explore the world of performance, visual arts, and experiment.
How does an exhibition come together, and what’s it like to collaborate with an artist on a large-scale project? The second Extended Weekend Edition centers on Celina Eceiza’s exhibition Rubyfruit Jungle, with textile-focused workshops, studio visits, and hands-on work building the large-scale installation that opens at Marres on 3 October 2027.

Celina Eceiza
Celina Eceiza (Tandil, Argentina, 1988) lives and works in Buenos Aires. She studied Fine Arts at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA). In 2016 she was affiliated with the Centro de Investigaciones Artísticas (CIA), and in 2024 she took part in the Art Omi residency in New York.
Her most important solo exhibitions include La conquista del reino de los miedos (Móvil, 2019), Villa Celina (Moria Galería, 2021), Personas que creo haber visto (Salón Acme–Moria, Mexico City, 2022), Desvelo (Moria Galería, 2023), and Ofrenda (Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires, 2024), with a traveling presentation at HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark (Graz, Austria, 2025).
She has participated in group exhibitions and collective projects at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, the UB Anderson Gallery, and the First Biennial of Textile Art of Chile. In 2020, she received the First Prize for Painting from the Central Bank and the Konex Award for Textile Art.
In 2018, she published the novel El falsificador.
Percy Nii Nortey
Percy Nii Nortey is a multidisciplinary artist from Kumasi, Ghana. Blurring the boundaries between installation, performative objects, and moving sculpture, his practice explores themes of identity, material history, decolonization, memory, and labor. Deeply rooted in his personal experience and the socioeconomic conditions of Ghana, Nortey’s work aims to empower Black communities and reclaim agency of their narratives.
Community engagement is central to Nortey’s artistic approach. He distributes second-hand fabrics to working-class communities in Ghana, later retrieving them after use, and transforming them into large scale textile works. These worn fabrics stained with residue of dirt, charcoal, grease, and oil, become archives of labor and resilience.

What is Extended?
Marres and the Jan van Eyck Academie collaborate on the education program Extended: the youth program of both institutes, where you work on a social art project for four months under professional guidance. At Extended, you research in a team how to make young people use or experience their senses in a different way. How can you make people hear, feel, smell, see or taste something to make them think?
Marres researches the senses in contemporary culture. Extended offers you an unique look behind the scenes through your own project. With the knowledge and assistance of curators, scientists, artists and communication heroes, you’ll discover contemporary culture from different sides.

Support
Extended introduces teenagers and young adults from different backgrounds to contemporary art and the urgent societal topics on its agenda, such as sustainability and inclusivity. Focusing on one topic or discipline, the young researchers will investigate how they can translate their knowledge to their peers. The programme is carried out twice a year and each time runs for four months.
