Marres invites makers to program our Friday evenings! We’re offering you a space in which to create your own event, such as a workshop, performance, lecture, presentation, film screening, or anything else you can think of. It can be indoors or outdoors, intimate or bold, experimental or deeply personal.
What is the Friday Evening program?
Every Friday evening, visitors can view the exhibition free of charge from 5PM to 8PM. In addition, during these special opening hours, Marres hosts a series of free events related to the exhibition and activities taking place in the house during that period.
This open call is your chance to contribute to a vibrant, sensory Friday Evening program. We aim to welcome fresh voices and new perspectives, foster collaboration and creative cross-pollination, and engage diverse audiences in meaningful ways.
Our event categories:
- Projects that respond to Marres’ exhibitions
For the current exhibition Porous Grounds, Sacred Codes, the program has already been fully scheduled. In the summer, we plan to create a public program around the Limburg Biënnale, alongside the Marres Garden Program. In the fall, textiles, handicraft, and collaboration will take center stage in the exhibition by Celina Eceiza. - Regional makers: both emerging and established artists, designers, performers, musicians, and thinkers who are active in Limburg and the surrounding area
- Outreach and community: activities that emerge from, or actively engage with, local communities
Submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Relevance to one or more of the program categories
- Artistic quality and sensory engagement
- Level of audience participation and connection
- Feasibility within Marres’ context and resources
What we offer:
- A fair practice fee per project (€350 for one artist, €650 for two artists, and €250 per artist for projects involving three or more artists)
- Travel expenses
- Technical supplies (e.g. a projector, video equipment, speakers, tables and chairs)
- On-site support during the event
- Promotion via our website, social media, and print materials (posters and flyers will feature multiple events)
- Water and tea for visitors
Requirements:
- The project must take place between 5:30PM and 7:30PM: Marres closes at 8PM
- Artists are responsible for providing their own materials, but an expenses fee is available to cover costs
