ONLINE ART COLLECTION
You can’t see The Invisible Collection, but you can discover the artworks through your ears. Originally created by Mediamatic Amsterdam, the project aimed to help the visually impaired to imagine works of art based on audio descriptions by art experts.
In 2019, Marres developed a new version of The Invisible Collection, in which we define art in the broadest sense of the word. Since then, Marres has collected stories from people of all ages that share their experience with an artwork in an audio fragment. The Invisible Collection is an public education project accessible to all through the Marres website. The project has become topical in 2020 and 2021, years characterised by lockdowns and closed museums. Through the stories of The Invisible Collection you can experience artworks from all over the world without leaving your house. The audio fragements aim to spark your imagination.
EDUCATION
We also launched a project with elementary school students that describe their favorite works of art. The initiative was nominated for the Dutch Museum Education Prize 2019.
