In the garden you will find the bustling restaurant Marres Kitchen, where you can enjoy delicious dishes with a Mediterranean touch in an informal atmosphere during the day and evening. Taste the chef’s cooking, served with the disarming cordiality and international allure that characterizes Marres.
Marres Kitchen is regularly tipped in the press as one of Maastricht’s favorite hotspots for lunch, drinks and dinner:
“In a beautiful mansion on the Capucijnenstraat you will find Marres Kitchen. When the weather is good, you can have lunch or dinner here in the lush city garden, but also in winter it is nice to stay thanks to the cozy interior. Nice to know: in addition to the restaurant on the first floor, the same building also hosts exhibitions, lectures and performances.”
“In the summer you sit here in the city garden and before you eat you can visit an exhibition in the same building. Marres Kitchen is part of the historic house Marres, which hosts various exhibitions and other creative events. At Marres you can taste Mediterranean cuisine. Think tortellini, lamb stew, grilled dorade and various mezze.”
Lunch in Maastricht at Marres Kitchen
“Marres Kitchen is one of the hotspots. And already my favorite for lunch in Maastricht. Super good Mediterranean cuisine with a wide choice of the most delicious dishes. Marres Kitchen is the museum café of the cultural center Marres in the Capucijnenstraat in the center of Maastricht. Nice to walk into Marres and check out the exhibition! At Marres Kitchen they have a nice big garden where in summer an outdoor restaurant and terrace are opened. Also a super location for a party! Marres Kitchen is a fine location for lunch in Maastricht or just a coffee. The café restaurant is open until 5PM and after 6PM so also nice for early evening dining. The long picnic tables combined with the designer chairs give Marres Kitchen a relaxed atmosphere. I tested the muhamarah and baba ghanoush for you. Both super tasty!”
“Adjunct to a gallery for contemporary art, dishes span the Mediterranean spectrum, with a fair variety of meat-free options especially among the beautifully crafted Middle Eastern mezes. The semiwild garden is an appealing part of the atmosphere, tucked quietly away off a noncommercial minor street.”
By Barts Boekje as one of the very best tips for Maastricht:
“Looking at art and Maastricht is a 1-2. Stumbling over galleries with work from all movements, from classical to modern, especially in the streets just outside the compact shopping center. My favorite is the contemporary Marres. The stately mansion that once belonged to a family of brewers – art, French fries with ‘zuurvlees’ and beer, that’s Maastricht – has been converted into a place where inspiring contemporary exhibitions can be seen, where lectures are given and where you can follow training courses. Another reason to visit the characteristic, intimate Marres is Marres Kitchen: really good yet uncomplicated dining? The chef cooks special Middle Eastern dishes with a Mediterranean touch, using ingredients from the region. In the summer months, some can be eaten in the beautiful courtyard garden. Just having a cup of coffee is also possible.”
