Leopold/Emmen – The House Where We Used to Live

The festive opening of The House Where We Used to Live (working title) by the artistic duo Leopold/Emmen will take place on 13 March. Their installations explore the boundary between film and space: not just a screen to watch, but an experience that physically surrounds you.

In November 2025, film recordings were made at Marres featuring actress Sandra Hüller and choreographer Meg Stuart. They perform without words in a grandly furnished but neglected house, where new people seem to keep arriving. For the exhibition, the house will be refurnished to recreate the setting seen in the film, and the footage will be shown alongside their voices reading letters to each other. Against the backdrop of a war that is never explicitly named but always felt, the relationships between the inhabitants gradually begin to change.

The componer Douglas Weiss created a special soundtrack for the exhibition.
