As the municipal elections approach, Cultuur in Maastricht (CiM) highlights the vital role of culture in the city.
CiM represents all of Maastricht’s cultural institutions, serving both as a strategic partner to the Municipality of Maastricht and as a platform for debate within the city’s cultural sector.
In a new video, young people from Maastricht share their personal perspectives. They express what culture means to them—both in their daily lives and in their vision for the city’s future. Their voices are at the heart of CiM’s call to local politicians: make culture a priority in your election platforms. With this message, CiM aims to clearly show just how essential culture is to building a livable, inclusive, and resilient city.
“Culture is not a luxury,” says Stef Niekamp, chair of CiM. “It’s a cornerstone of Maastricht: it brings people together, boosts the economy, attracts talent, and helps to define who we are.” CiM warmly invites political parties to participate in a conversation about the role of culture in shaping future policies.
