In November 2025, filming for The House Where We Used to Live will take place at Marres, Maastricht. The project is by filmmaker Nanouk Leopold and visual artist Daan Emmen, who work together under the name Leopold Emmen. Their installations explore the relationship between film and spatial experience: films that do not exist only on a screen, but physically surround the viewer.
For this new work, which will be on view at Marres in 2026, we are looking for extras of all ages. The story centers on two women living in a house, until one day a large group of strangers arrives to move in as well. The scenes are abstract and without dialogue — for example, you might lie on the floor as if everyone is asleep, sit together on the stairs while someone tries to walk up, or move through a hallway.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, the filming with the extras will take place.
Interested?
Create a short self-tape of up to three minutes (preferably without makeup) in which you introduce yourself, for example with your phone. You can also make a tape together with a friend or family member. Wear old, solid-colored clothing without logos, preferably something you are willing to bring to the shoot and donate for the exhibition (you don’t need to leave your shoes or coat behind). If you don’t have anything, we’ll find something for you.
Send your video before September 15 to werken@marres.org with the subject line “Extra Leopold Emmen”. The film crew will select the candidates who best fit the project.
You will be notified by October 5 if you have been selected. There is no fee, but we will provide a nice lunch during the shoot.
