Front desk employee (m/f/x) for 12 hours per week.
Marres is a House for Contemporary Culture in Maastricht, featuring a beautiful garden and an excellent restaurant. Marres produces exhibitions and organizes lectures, performances, and a wide range of projects devoted to the language of the body. We work with visual artists, performers, dancers, and theater makers.
What we are looking for:
As a front desk assistant, you are responsible for the exhibition space. You are a welcoming host who enjoys receiving visitors and has an affinity with Marres’ program and the world of contemporary art. Together with a team of volunteers, you staff the reception desk and are responsible for providing optimal guidance and support to visitors. You supervise volunteers, report to the floor managers, and assist where possible. You will regularly be involved in events and exhibition openings. In addition, you are the regular substitute during holidays and illness of the floor managers.
Key tasks:
- Front desk duties including ticket sales and selling Marres’ merchandise
- Welcoming visitors and providing information about the exhibition and public programs
- Opening and closing and ensuring the proper care of the exhibition, for example by monitoring artworks and resolving minor technical issues
- Preparing daily reports, cash register reconciliation, and reporting to the floor managers
- Supervising volunteers
- Assisting the floor managers during openings and events
Competencies
You are hospitable, proactive, decisive, and have an eye for detail and quality. You know how to motivate and supervise a team of volunteers. You work accurately when maintaining reports. You are alert, solution-oriented and you work well in stressful situations. Above all, you have a flexible and loyal work attitude and are willing to go the extra mile.
Job requirements:
- Proficiency with computer programs such as Word and Excel, and with cash register/payment systems
- Basic knowledge of audio-visual equipment
- Proficiency in Dutch is an advantage
- Affinity with (contemporary) art
- Flexible attitude towards additional activities
- Living in Maastricht or the surrounding area
- Availability to cover for colleagues who are ill or on vacation
- BHV (emergency response) certificate (Marres will provide training)
Working hours
As a Front Desk Assistant, you are available two days a week. On average, you will work two weekends and two Friday evenings per month. You will have fixed hours, but working on public holidays and during events is also part of the job. During installation and de-installation periods, weekends are generally free.
