Date: Wednesday 17 August 2022
Time: 13:00 to 15:00
With: Floor Martens
Location: Marres, Capucijnenstraat 98 Maastricht
Language: Dutch
Workshop: max. 12 people
In this workshop on Wednesday 17 August you will write in and with the garden of Marres. Several short assignments will follow each other in which you will write with different materials: abstract, slow, fast, visual or paying attention to sound or rhythm.
The garden is used as a source of inspiration, we are observers and, for example, we use a pen, chalk, typewriter, a twig with ink or a finger dipped in water to record the observations. We can share our texts with each other and we will have conversations about what, for example, letters can mean for us.
The workshop is given in Dutch by artist Floor Martens, to a small group.
About Floor Martens
Floor Martens (1998, Reuver) is a visual artist. She lives and works in Maastricht. In her work she investigates various transformation processes of humans, animals and nature and the value of our own physical materials. By intervening in the process of decay, she looks for a way to retain the memory of life.
De Ommuurde Tuin
The garden of Marres has a rich history and offers space to large fig trees, flowering shrubs such as hawthorn and winter jasmine, ferns and flowers such as tulips and dahlias. The garden is also populated by a large number of birds, insects, butterflies, toads and frogs. At the very back is a monumental ice house where ice used to be stored in the hot summer months. With all the beauty that the garden of Marres has to offer, artist Gladys Zeevaarders has put together a publication. She asked 10 artists to connect their own practice with the walled garden. The result: a beautiful publication with commissions from 10 different artists. This can be ordered in our webshop or for sale in our museum shop.
