Performance: In presence of an embracement
Skin-to-skin, bones entangled and muscles crossing each other in perpetual movement: two bodies in a continuous embracement. Since the worldwide outbreak of Coronavirus, our approach to physical contact in society has changed drastically. Embracing each other has become a physical act solely present in the private space amongst people from the same household.
Choreographers Marika Meoli and Joost Vrouenraets stage a choreographic artwork performed by two bodies in the act of embracing each other. In presence of an embracement is a manifesto representing the period of global societal change since the year 2020. The manifesto is a life performance sculpted upon the simultaneous flexing and folding of two bodies, negotiating adaptability, coordination and space in order to support each other.
