Christa van der Meer – Scarecrows.
Christa van der Meer
During FASHIONCLASH Festival on 26, 27 and 28 November, the work Scarecrows by Christa van der Meer is on display in the garden of Marres. Her work is a visual investigation into the relationship between people and objects. A recurring theme is the anthropomorphic: attributing human characteristics to non-human beings and objects.
Van der Meer is fascinated by scarecrows; a figure that is shaped by our discarded clothing and represents a human being. We use them not because birds actually find scarecrows scary, but because we think birds find them scary. Van der Meer is intrigued by how scarecrows look like us, but at the same time are some kind of monstrous variant of us.
