For every exhibition, Marres publishes a ‘cahier’, a visitors booklet that contains an essay or interview with the artist(s) and information about the installation and/or individual works presented in the exhibition. Responding to the high demand for the (out of stock) booklets, Marres published in 2017 The Collection: Marres Exhibition Cahiers all the booklets designed between 2013-2016. A second volume that covers the years 2017-2020 is in the making. A similar compilation of cahiers for ten years of Currents is scheduled to appear in 2022.
Marres also makes special publications. Most of these serve as catalogue or research publication to the exhibitions. Examples of these are The Painted Bird (2017) and Dreaming Awake (2018) for the eponymous exhibitions, and On Gestures of Doing Nothing for the exhibition The Floor is Lava (2019). The artist Marijn van Kreij made a postcard book with the title Nude in the Studio (2018). For Espen Sommer Eide’s The Waves (2019) Marres produced together with SOFA Music a vinyl album version of the exhibited work at Marres. The album is also available on Spotify. Marres further produced a special senses guide to the city: Maastricht: A Guide for the Senses, composed by Hanne Hagenaars with contributions from many artists and writers. The guide is available in Dutch and English.
