During a visit to the exhibition, young people came into contact with the ‘petrified’ sculptures of artist duo Sander Breure & Witte van Hulzen. Together with an art professional, they investigated the attitudes and behaviors of the sculptures in the exhibition, and then set to work themselves with observations of small daily rituals. Think for example of eating fries at the market, how friends walk the streets together, how dinner goes, brushing your teeth and so on.
In an open experiment, the youngsters were given the task of depicting small gestures of cultural rituals they have noticed with their own bodies, drawing, modelling or describing them. This forms an archive of expressions. From this archive larger images can be made, or new situations can be sketched out (depending on the time the group has).
