To what extent are our choices still autonomous? How we see the world is often determined by a small majority, magnified by the media. In the exhibition at Marres, house for contemporary culture, the artists make us aware of the systems that represent our current world. Artists playfully search for new worldly constructions and representations.
At Marres the students received text and context about the philosophy of Guy Debord, author of the spectacle society. In addition, the artist Aurelie challenged the students to play tricycles in a sea of possibilities, in order to come up with new ideas.
Artist Annika Kappner showed examples of how shops, through the senses, surreptitiously seduce us to buy. How aware are we of our senses and the ways in which we, or others, use them? What does that say about yourself and how you stand in the world?
